STORY OF THE PROJECT
THE GIP AGÉVIF FORMATION IS THE COORDINATOR
The local GIP Agévif depends on the National Education Authority and works within the local administrative framework of the Académie de Poitiers. Its mission is to implement and develop actions of cooperation in the fields of adult continuous education, professional training and integration through the following types of actions :
- Training, research and development of learning tools, didactic engineering, organisation of training sessions
- Validation of work experience
- Service provided to the EPLE (formal training), to the Greta (concerned with adult continuing education), to businesses and other instances, assignments, surveys.
- Implementation of the various local programmes designed to help young people with social difficulties to access the job market.
- Implementation of the European strategy for employment under the form of educational actions and investments.
THE CONTEXT
The European policy of giving access to lifelong learning to a maximum
of adults combined to the French economic context characterised by massive
redundancies and business reorganizations due to the recent crisis, have
led the French government to pay particular attention to people with
low levels of qualification. The aim is to give them the opportunity
to acquire the 8 key competences as they are defined in the Lisbonne
strategy. With this objective in mind, state funded training programs
have been set up in various French “regions” (administrative
divisions) targeting unemployed people and concentrating on the acquisition
of 5 of these key competences, namely :
1- communicating in the mother tong
2- communicating in foreign languages
3- mathematical skills/ computing skills and basic
science and technology skills
4- Information Technology (ICT)
5- learning to learn skills
THE IDEA
In Poitou-Charentes, the network of the GRETA agencies has chosen to
base its action on two already existing structures : the workshops focusing
on personalised learning skills and the workshop focusing on fight against
illiteracy. These two programmes offer personalised training in key competences
to unemployed people. In this context, the GRETA network has at its disposal
some educational tools and methods, but they target a very general public.
Today’s challenge is to adapt and to refine these approaches and
tools so as to make them more adapted to the professional work context
of individual learners. Two areas are particularly targeted :
- learning to learn strategies, which raise numerous didactic questions.
- communicating in the mother tong, a skill for which new educational tools
need to be created. In France the state funded programm is aimed at unemployed
people. However, these tools and approaches will be created and implemented so
as to be useable for training people in all kinds of employment.
